Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, 130 of 1993

COIDA, in plain English

Estimate your Return of Earnings and annual assessment, or build the full W.As.8 figures in 2 minutes — and understand exactly what the Compensation Fund covers.

What it is
COIDA is the Compensation Fund's insurance for workplace injuries and diseases. As an employer you register your business, declare your salary bill each year (the Return of Earnings / W.As.8), and pay a tariff rate set by your industry risk class.
Why you need it
If you're not registered and an employee is hurt at work, you lose COIDA's protection: the Fund won't cover the claim, and the employee may sue you personally for medical bills, lost wages and disability. Without a Letter of Good Standing you can also be disqualified from tenders, corporate contracts and renewals.

Estimates are guidance, not an official assessment. The Compensation Fund's ROE Online issues the official assessment after you file.
